Founded in 2003 by osei narh, blacspot is back, following the fire that claimed the former blacspot studio in burnaby, along with all the belongings of narh and his apprentice, dima sologub. events like these usually discourage those they effect, but the artists drive to create is not easily hindered, and it was decided that blacspot had to be rebuilt, lest the principles it was founded on be abandoned. in november of 2006 construction of the blacspot studio commenced on historic front street in new westminster, and artist/designer jamil keyani joined the blacspot family. drawing on the design expertise of narh and resident artist stefan kotter, blacspot was recreated on a larger, more beautiful, and ultimately more potent scale. after restoring the heritage space to it's most attainable original state, the blacspot team incorperated it's signature interior approach. rolling textured partitions, stained brick structure, narh's signature columns, and carefully planned lighting all came together to create a dynamic and inviting space, ready to house the artwork of its creators, and anyone bold enough to explore what blacspot means to them.
